How Does It Feel To Be Gay?

This is a copy/paste from the Queers United blog. It's too good not to share.

An Exercise in Gay Acceptance for Heterosexuals

This video is an exercise that was given at a seminar in how it feels to be isolated and discriminated against as a gay person. This video is an exercise to let straight people imagine what it would feel like if the world was gay, and heterosexuals considered deviant outcasts. It is eye opening video into heterosexual privilege and highly recommended!

I wasn't able to watch the whole thing because I kept getting interrupted by little ones begging for more cereal but from the parts I did see, it was very interesting. What a wonderful way to have people experience things from the other side, by closing their eyes and imagining what it must feel like for others.

I honestly don't understand why people have to separate people out by their sexual preferences, skin color, etc. It bothers me when people introduce me to their kids and say "and this is my adopted son". Why point it out? Does it really matter? A good friend of mine's SIL finally felt comfortable enough to tell her family that she is gay and wants to introduce her girlfriend to them but her mother is flipping out, like "what do I tell people when I introduce them to others..". I think it's really pretty simple..."this is my daughter and her girlfriend". Isn't it really that simple??

I don't understand the label system, either. A person is a person, not a thing.
